Care and Maintenance for Dried Flower Arrangements

DIY Dried Floral Arrangements

Dried flower arrangements have become increasingly popular, both for their longevity and their timeless beauty. While fresh flowers can bring vibrant colors and a pleasant scent, dried blooms offer their own charm that lasts much longer, especially when mixed with wood flowers and moss. However, just like fresh flowers, dried arrangements require proper care to maintain their beauty over time. Here are some maintenance tips to ensure your dried flower arrangements stay vibrant for as long as possible.

  1. Gentle Handling and Occasional Dusting: Dried flowers are delicate and handling them with care is crucial. When you’re arranging or cleaning, always use a gentle touch to prevent breakage or damage to the petals and stems. A soft bristled pain brush works well for gentle dusting. You can also use compressed air (like what is used to clean computer keyboards), just be sure to use short bursts at a distance of 12” or more.

  2. Keep Away from Direct Sunlight: Exposure to direct sunlight can fade the colors of dried flowers over time. To preserve vibrancy, keep your arrangement out of direct sunlight and rotate the arrangement occasionally to ensure even fading. You can also substitute faded blooms with replacement blooms to refresh the arrangement or change the seasonal feel with an alternate color palette.

  3. Avoid Humidity and Store Carefully: Dried flowers are susceptible to moisture, which can lead to mold and decay. Keep your arrangements away from humid areas, such as bathrooms. A dry and well-ventilated room is ideal. If you need to store your dried flower arrangements temporarily, choose a cool, dry place. Use a sealed container or a box slightly larger than the arrangement to protect them from dust and pests.

  4. Use Hairspray: You can add an extra layer of protection by lightly spraying your dried flower arrangements with unscented hairspray. This helps to keep the petals in place and prevents them from becoming brittle. Hold the hairspray at a distance to avoid saturation.

  5. Rehydrate Occasionally: While dried flowers don't need water, a light misting with water can help revitalize them. Use a water spray bottle and mist from a distance to avoid soaking the blooms. Allow them to dry completely before placing them back in their display.

By following these maintenance tips, you can extend the life and beauty of your dried flower arrangements, whether from Bloom Box or your own creation.  You can enjoy the enduring beauty of dried flowers for a long time with these simple yet effective practices!
